Corps Director; Percussion Caption Head
Alex Gray is a founding member of Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps and is honored to be the new Corps Director! Alex has been teaching since 2006 and is currently the Percussion Caption Head at Sultana High School and Battery Instructor at Redlands High School. His music arrangements and instruction has led the percussion programs to many awards in SCSBOA, SCJA, SCPA and ADLA. As a performer, Alex marched Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps, Incognito Winter Drumline, and a variety of different ensembles at the University of Redlands.
Alex is endorsed by Vic Firth and is a proud member of the Percussion Arts Society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Brass Caption Head
Robert Albright began his marching career in 2006 with the Santa Ana Winds Youth Organization – a competitive parade style marching band. In 2008 he graduated from Rancho Alamitos High School as the drum major for its marching band and in 2009 Robert began his Drum Corps Career by marching with Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps. He later went on to march with The Mandarins, The Academy, and finally he aged out with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2012. Robert studied music at Cal State Fullerton and studied trumpet under teachers and professional musicians such as Dr. Joshua Norton, Barry Perkins, and others.
From 2009-2012, Robert was a Marching technician for Rancho Alamitos High School.
Robert holds a bachelors degree in Anthropology from Cal State Fullerton and currently resides in the city of Fullerton. Outside of work he plays small trumpet gigs locally and plays trumpet with the Golden West Symphonic Band where he has played for 7 years.Robert is very excited to be a part of the Incognito 2015 staff.
Colorguard Caption Head
Rachel Neilson has been involved in the world of Colorguard since 2003, starting in high school at Garden Grove. After high school, Rachel became a founding member of Incognito Winterguard, competing from 2008 until 2010. She also participated as a member of the Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps for the summer of 2009 and with SoCal Dream Drum and Bugle Corps in the summer of 2012. She was also a founding member of the Winterguard team, Enora in spring of 2011. Rachel has taught guard for nearly 7 years at Brea Olinda (Fall 2009). Beyond expanding the program at Brea Olinda High School to two teams, she has taught at Whittier Christian High School and Brea Junior High for 5 years, and Garden Grove High School for the last year.
Besides colorguard, Rachel received her M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Biola University in 2013 and her B.A. in Anthropology with minors in Biblical Studies and Archaeology in 2010.
She is excited for what the future holds for her working as the guard caption head for Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps.
Visual Caption Head
Kurt has been a visual instructor for 15 years, and a drill designer for the past six years. His schools have become perennial finalists and leaders in their circuits, including: Sultana HS, West Valley HS, Riverside Poly HS, and recently Redlands East Valley HS. Kurt has also instructed at San Gorgonio HS, Desert Hot Springs HS, and Canyon Springs HS (his alma mater).
From 2002-2008, Kurt was a member of the RCC Marching Tigers, serving as Drum Major his final three years. From 2009-2015, he was on the Marching Tigers’ instructional staff and worked as the program’s administrative assistant. In 2016, Kurt was hired by Riverside City College as the full-time Music Specialist to oversee all logistics for the RCC Marching Band programs.
Incognito 2017 marks Kurt’s return to drum corps. He marched with Pacific Crest from 2001-2005. During that time, he saw the corps transition from a weekend-only ensemble to a full-time, touring drum corps and World Class Semi-Finalist. Kurt received PC’s “Outstanding Brass Performer” award and is a DCI Individual & Ensemble Champion. He was a visual instructor for Pacific Crest from 2006-2009.
Kurt graduated from California State University, San Bernardino in June 2016 with a B.A. in Business Administration, Management.
Alex Chavez aged out of Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps in 2014 and is honored to be returning as a staff member. Alex has had the honor to perform with the Riverside Community College Marching Band, Concert Band, and Lab Jazz Band, as well as the Pomona and Rancho Cucamonga Community Bands. He is also actively taking private trumpet lessons under the tutelage of Dr. David Evans of California State University Long Beach.
Alex is currently a nursing student and plans on becoming a nursing educator and family nurse practitioner.
Apryll has been part of colorguard since high school. After graduating from La Quinta HS, she has gone on to perform with many groups. Apryll is proud to be a founding member of Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps as well as a founding member of Incognito Winterguard. She has also performed with Corona Light, the Pride of Missouri State Marching Band, Pridettes Danceline, and the Pride of Missouri State Winterguard. Apryll is currently the colorguard director at Norco High School and spends her free time playing with her dog, Bruno.
Ricardo Avalos comes to us from Southern California where he has been part of the percussion community since 2009, having 8 years of performance experience.
He has marched snare at Summit High School and won High Drums in Championships. He also marched with Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2014 and was drum captain for 2015 season.
Post his marching experience, he instructs at Sultana High School for the Marching Band and Winter Drumline.
Adrian Michael Lopez
Front Ensemble Manager
Adrian began his marching career at Whittier High School where he had marched trombone and performed in the front ensemble. He had graduated in 2008 and moved into drum corps where he was in the front ensemble and marched baritone for the Velvet Knights. He has been a part of many indoor Percussion ensembles such as Full Force Percussion, Pasadena City College, POW Percussion and Dark Sky Percussion. He studied music at Cerritos College under Theresa Diamond and others at the applied music center. Adrian had taught at several schools including Whittier, Baldwin Park, La Serna and Warren High School. He is also the current front ensemble arranger and instructor for La Mirada High School. Outside of instruction, Adrian is a bartender at BJs Restaurant & Brewhouse. Adrian would like to thank all the performers and instructors he has worked with and is proud to be on board with the staff for the 2017 season.
Tony T Nguyen
Founder; Operations Manager; Music Arranger
Tony T Nguyen, founder of Incognito Drumline and Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps, started teaching local high schools in southern California since 1999. Tony is a drill designer, composer, arranger, and percussion instructor. His shows have won numerous sweepstakes captions in multiple circuits such as MBOS, SCSBOA, SCJA, and WBA.Tony has taught and designed for Brea Olinda High School, Edison High School, Huntington Beach High School, Garden Grove High School, La Quinta High School, South Pasadena High School, San Marino High School, Baldwin Park High School, Fullerton Union High School, and other local schools.
Tony will be arranging the music for Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps this year. Tony is endorsed by Vic Firth as a Marching Percussion Specialist / Scholastic Educator.
